SKILLS & DRILLS PRACTICE SESSION

This is not a class - Skills & Drills is a practice session for shooters who are already holster-proficient.

The session is 1-1/2 hours with about one hour net shooting time.  There are two sessions each date and you can sign up for both if desired.  The cost of the session is $50.00.

Prior training is required such as the holster training at GAT GUNS.  So is evidence of "classification" in action pistol shooting sports.  This includes USPSA, IPSC, IDPA, and Steel Challenge.  Other training such as recent law enforcement training may be acceptable.  Training in a concealed carry class is not acceptable holster training.

What to bring to the session:

  • A safe, operational handgun - minimum caliber .38 Special or 9mm Parabellum
  • A minimum of three magazines for semi-autos; four speed loaders for revolvers (we suggest bringing more)
  • A holster and belt
  • Magazine/speed loader carriers to hold a least two are needed; carrying four on the belt will be helpful
  • 100 rounds of ammo

You should be familiar with the handgun you plan to use.  The holster should cover the trigger guard and trigger and be of the belt-mounted, strong-side type.  Nylon pouch holsters usually do not do well in heavy range use.  Inside-the-waistband holsters are often slow or even difficult to use especially when re-holstering the gun and so these are not recommended.  Proficiency with range holsters easily translates to real-world holsters and makes the initial learning process simpler.  Synthetic (Kydex) holsters are the most durable and serviceable - Blackhawk, Uncle Mikes, Fobus, and BladeTech are example of holsters that will do well.  The belt should be a stiff gun belt type either 1-1/2 or 1-3/4 inch leather or nylon.  The inner/outer competition style belts such as CR Speed are the best in terms of equipment stability and comfort.

We prohibit holsters that cause sweeping or other safety-related issues on the range, such as small-of-back, cross-draw and shoulder.  While these types have their use, they are not appropriate for use in a crowded range.
